A lot of women in my family is afraid of frogs, but I think even they wouldn't say no to these frogs. A perfect proof that garden ornaments don't have to be kitsch and boring - quite on the contrary, it turns out they can be quite intriguing and original. I really like the fishing one and the one lying down with a book ;-)
So, do you think that such a frog would be a welcomed guest in your garden? It definitely would be in mine - if only I had a garden... And as you've probably guessed, I have found these in the Hortulus Gardens in Dobrzyca, my new favourite garden in Poland. When a handbag-crazy person like me thinks about Easter, what is the first thought that comes to mind? The answer is obvious, it's: "I wonder if there are any egg-shaped bags out there?" ;-) Well, I haven't really expected to find anything really eye-catching in this category, but to my surprise - I have. It turns out there is a very unusual designer in the US, a former Army Corps of Engineer, who designs exclusive, gem-studded tiny handbags, and one of the major lines are egg-shaped ones! Made from silver, gemstones, crystals and translucent enamel, each of them in itself looks like a handcrafted piece of unique jewellery. Even if they are not exactly up your alley, you'll have to admit that they do make an impression! This is the kind of accessory which screams "look at me, I'm here!" louder than any I've seen so far. :-) Below is a selection of egg-shaped bages from Vivian Alexander's website, and you can read more about him and his tiny pieces of art here. Enjoy! And I think I finally run out of the photos with Christmas decorations - at least for now ;-) So I guess it's high time to come back to more of a variety on my blog....
Let's start with some ingenious - how should I call them? food sculptures? - I've found recently on the web. It's sculpting meets computer graphics, and the results are quite astounding. After all, now that you see it, you can imagine turning an aubergine into a pinguin or an egg shell into a house, but if you never saw it, you'de never have thought about it by yourself! The photos come from these websites: www.thiscrazyweb.com and cute-pictures.blogspot.com . Enjoy! I think there is quite a fierce competition out there among the photographers – there’s so many of them trying to make a name for themselves, and only few have the talent, creativity, originality and luck required to succeed. Keith Kimberlin is one of those who managed to do just that, by becoming one of the most famous photographers of…puppies and kittens. Can it get any cuter? I’ve become his fan the moment I saw a certain collage made-up from his photos – will you believe that the photos were of kittens in…shoes and bags! Can any woman say no to that combo?! See for yourself: Almost equally endearing are the two collages with kittens and puppies in coffee cups ;-) And here are a few other examples from Keith Kimberlin’s portfolio – you can find more information at www.keithkimberlin.com
Have you ever heard of polymer clay? It’s a sculptable material based on PVC, called clay because its texture and working properties are very similar to those of mineral clay. It can be used for a range of creative hobbies, and it can be used for creating real art. The latter is what I think Kathleen Dustin does. Kathleen seems to be one of the most famous polymer clay artists out there, and she specialises in designing and sculpting…exquisite handbags and jewellery. I find her works really amazing – so full of details, so subtly feminine, so alive. And these are the bags you can actually wear - the result of the artist's deliberate choice to sculpt something people can acually use, not only put on a shelf where they collect dust. Here is Kathleen's newest collection of handbags, inspired by the elements of nature in New Hampshire, where she currently resides. You can read more about her exceptional works here, and below is a selection of bags from here new nature-inspired line. There are undoubtedly some areas of life where creativity is not really recommended (e.g. accounting…) but in my opinion, they’re just few. And one field in which much more creativity should be applied is, definitely, advertising. I’m pretty sure you’d agree that too many ads just repeat well-known ideas that lost their claim to originality decades ago.
So I decided that from time to time, when I come across a creative ad, I’ll put it on my blog. And here is the first one – a series of posters advertising a range of coffee-filled chocolate of an Italian company called Zaini – original, isn’t it? ;-) I am a woman, therefore I love flowers.... That’s a paradigm, I think. And the fact that in the Netherlands you can buy beautiful, fresh flowers practically all year round, choose from a vast range of creative arrangements, go for the biggest bouquet you’ve ever seen and still do not spend more than 10 EUR, is one of the biggest advantages of living in this country ;-) But the Dutch not only love their flowers, they also love all kinds of design. The flower vases come in an astounding number of shapes and sizes, often allowing to make an impressive arrangement with just a few blooms. Inspired by this I browsed the web to see what creative vases I can find out there, and this is the result of my quest. The first one is for tulips – a modern-looking, glass-and-steel vase which I think is elegant, simple and yet eye-catching. I’ve found it on this website: www.philippi.com The next one, called Bikini Vase, is a great example of how easy it is to design something fun and interesting with a slight alteration of a traditional design – if you have the right idea. This one comes from this website:www.artgallery18.com . And here are a few equally simple-yet-creative vase ideas found here. Enjoy!
As of yesterday I have a new favourite photographer – Michel Tcherevkoff. He’s known mainly for his work on advertisement photography for major cosmetic brands, he earned this title for the one amazing project he created – Flower Footwear (“Shoe-Fleur” – see cover on the left). The book is a stunning imaginary collection of shoes (with matching handbags, no less!!!) created from botanical photos. More precisely – every item is meticulously crafted from photographs of a single plant or flower. It’s a glorious homage to shoes, to beauty, to art and I guess also to all the women. See the two amazing photos below to see what I mean: And here are all the other prints from this one-of-a-kind collection which I could find on the Internet – there are many, many others in the book, all divided into a number of collections and with stories behind their creation… It takes an amazing imagination and creativity, paired with skill, to create something so elegant, charming, playful and both simple and complex at the same time. The official website of the project can be found here. And here – just to give you an idea – is one of the amazing bags designed to accompany the fairy-tale shoes… I so wish it could be real…
